For high value wines, labels must cite the exact name
of the product (e.g. Primitivo di Manduria, Lizzano
Bianco D.O.C. Torretta, etc.) followed by "Denominazione
di Origine Controllata - Certification of Controlled
Origin" or "Denominazione di Origine Controllata
e Garantita - Certification of Controlled and Guaranteed
Origin".
Certification of Controlled Origin (D.O.C.):
it is well known name to consumers and it is reserved
wines that answer to the well-estabilished conditions
and requirements (as prescribed by the "production
norms"). For these wine a specific Republic President
decree must be issued.
Certification of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin
(D.O.C.G.): it is reserved to wines of particular
value that must be traded with a State mark in order
to prevent that the content can extracted without the
breach of the mark itself.
